"The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest." Thomas Moore
This is by far my favorite design/page layout book. I have posted about it before, and just can't tell you enough how much I love it. The are MANY types of layouts, all with endless variations. The layouts are beautifully done, classic, and timeless. And no, I'm not just saying that because I sell Close to My Heart. I truly love this book and use it all the time.
This is the layout I chose to use for 2 pictures of Jim and his partner Darrell.
This layout was tons of fun. The background cardstock is some I've had for a long time - it's a plain color, but rustic and shabby looking. I pulled out all sorts of metallic and rustic looking elements. That hinge sticker and the postage stamp stickers I've had for at leat 5 years, as well as those shaped metal clips.
I punched a bunch of circles out of the cardstock, then inked all the edges. I positioned them with repositionable adhesive, then started filling them in with the embellishments. One I had a circle done, I put it back into place with a regular permanent adhesive. The title is some plain chipboard letters (I think Heidi Swapp) that I painted with Tim Holtz crackle paint.
What I learned:
1) I still have trouble with crackle paint. From what Felicia tells me, I think I need to put in on thicker.
2) This was a great way to use a LOT of little embellishments. I loved that.
3) I already know this, but didn't do it. What? Well, space my title letters out BEFORE I just grab the first letter and start gleefully gluing them down. I really didn't want that last "S" straying into the circle territory. I believe the saying is "live and learn". I've got the first part down, but obviously am still working on the second part.
Thanks for coming by - hopefully you will come back tomorrow. Love, me.
